Holden to Sponsor New Pavilion at the National Motor Museum

12 November, 1998

The History Trust of South Australia is pleased to announce that Holden Ltd is to be the naming rights sponsor of the new Pavilion of Australian Motoring at the National Motor Museum, Birdwood.

The $5m pavilion is to be officially opened by The Hon John Olsen MP, Premier of South Australia on 5 December. This exciting new major tourist attraction for South Australia will be a world class museum which celebrates and explores the contribution of motoring and its industry to Australia's advancement over the past century.

To be named The Holden Pavillion, it will encompass 3,700 square metres to display Australia's most significant collection of historic commercial vehicles, cars and motorcycles with representatives from every decade since vehicles were first manufactured, including the 1948 Holden Number One - the first Holden off the production line.

This is the largest sponsorship secured by the History Trust. In all, over three quarters of a million dollars has been raised for this project from the corporate sector.

History Trust Director Peter Cahalan said, "We are grateful to the State Government for securing the future of Australia's motoring heritage and to Holden Ltd for its support in consolidating the National Motor Museum as one of the best transport museums in the world".
