  • New Audi TTS Coupe and Roadster launched
  • Efficient, sporty 2.0 TFSI engine is a four-time “Engine of the Year” winner
  • Manual and S tronic transmissions available

Audi’s seriously hot and handy new TTS sportscar has arrived in Australia in both Coupe and Roadster guise.

The Audi TTS Coupe is priced from a competitive $92,900 rrp, whilst the TTS Roadster starts at just $97,100.

The new TTS models offer blistering yet economical performance from an uprated 200kW 2.0 TFSI engine which has been awarded the international Engine of the Year class winner for four years running.

Where this award-winning engine is concerned however, is not only the 200 kW of output that makes the TFSI so popular – but also its hefty pulling power with maximum torque of 350 Nm is constantly on tap from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm.

The combination of the high-performance 2.0 TFSI engine with Audi’s clever lightweight hybrid body architecture is a clear demonstration of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’.

Audi’s managing director, Joerg Hofmann, says the new TTS will cast a positive glow over the entire TT model range.

“As with all Audi S models, the new TTS will be the sporty top model in its family. It not only looks more aggressive and dynamic, its performance is second-to-none and continues the success story of the brand which focuses on reducing consumption whilst maintaining performance,” Mr Hofmann said.

“The new Audi TT is not only bigger and bolder, it is also lighter and more efficient – the Audi TT is a sportscar you can drive without regret.”

The TTS owes its superior performance to a whole raft of innovative concepts. quattro permanent all-wheel drive translates sheer power efficiently into motion and the Audi magnetic ride shock absorber system guarantees precise handling. The high-tech 6-speed dual clutch S tronic transmission takes charge of power transmission as well, shifting faster than even a highly skilled driver, covering the sprint from 0 – 100kmh in just 5.2 seconds.

With the alternative choice of 6-speed manual for ‘purists’, the Audi TTS manual variant nonetheless sprints from the starting blocks in just 5.4 seconds in Coupe guise.

Thanks to the excellent efficiency derived from combining FSI direct fuel injection with turbocharging and a lightweight body, the sporty-sounding TFSI has an average fuel consumption of just 8.0 litres/100 kilometres in the Coupe when partnered by the six-speed manual transmission, while the figure for the Roadster averages 8.2 l/100 km. Add the economical S tronic dual-clutch transmission and these figures drop down to 7.9 l/100 km and 8.0 l/100 km respectively.

Its design remains a clear highlight and it is immediately apparent that the Audi TTS is the dynamic top model within the TT line.

The standard 18-inch alloy wheels are a highlight of the special design, as are the newly-designed bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights.

Inside, passengers are cocooned in deep-set sports seats trimmed in Silk Nappa leather seat upholstery. The grey background for the instruments, as well as the flat-bottomed 3-spoke leather sports multifunction steering wheel add further styling touches. For mobile entertainment, there is a Symphony sound system (MP3 compatible) complete with 6-stack CD player and an auxiliary input.

The 2-seater Roadster comes with an electro-hydraulic drive for the soft top, a power-operated wind deflector, plus a load-through facility for added practicality. The rear seats in the Coupe have a split-folding design, allowing luggage capacity to be increased from 290 to 700 litres.

Without a doubt, Audi has reached a special milestone with the TTS. Ten years ago the TT Coupe first took to the road, swiftly acquiring the status of a design icon and its successors have been increasing in popularity ever since, in both hard-top and open-top form. With the arrival of this sporting dynamo, the Audi TT range has reached dizzying new heights with the TTS models.

The Audi TT model range:

TT Coupe 2.0 TFSI 6-speed manual $68,900 rrp
TT Coupe 2.0 TFSI S tronic $72,900 rrp
TT Coupe 3.2 quattro S tronic $89,400 rrp

TTS Coupe 6-speed manual $92,900 rrp
TTS Coupe S tronic $96,500 rrp

TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI S tronic $77,900 rrp
TT Roadster 3.2 quattro S tronic $93,300 rrp

TTS Roadster 6-speed manual $97,100 rrp
TTS Roadster S tronic $100,700 rrp
