A new four-door variant of the award-winning Nissan Navara has arrived with
even more load-bed room, class-leading torque and towing ability.
A trio of King Cab models is now available powered by a muscular 2.5-litre
turbo-diesel engine delivering 126kW power and a superior 403Nm torque in 4x4
models.
Two transmissions are on offer, the standard six-speed manual and an optional
5-speed automatic. The six-speed manual has a ‘long’ overdrive top gear for
better economy and quieter running.
In addition, Nissan is adding a Single Cab Chassis manual transmission model
to the family that features a separate two-passenger bench seat and an even
longer load bed for those who want the practicality of a tough, modern workhorse
with the latest features.
The Nissan Navara King Cab offers seating for four, thanks to a pair of
fold-down rear seats which, when folded, allow more than enough room for luggage
or tools behind the front seats.
The King Cab allows easy entry to the rear of the cab thanks to a rear-hinged
door on either side that opens wide. With no B pillar to impede entry or egress,
occupants will find cabin entry and egress comfortably easy.Safety is also a
priority with headrests and 3-point seatbelts for all four passengers.
Thanks to the longer load bed, compared with the Navara Dual Cab, the new
King Cab ST-X Pick-Up can fit 1855mm long loads into its rear tub.
Three King Cab models are available; the RX King Cab Chassis, which along
with the premium specification ST-X King Cab Chassis, can be fitted with a
Genuine Nissan aftermarket tray; and the sportiest ST-X King Cab Pick-Up which
comes with its own tub and integrated tub liner, sports bar, rear chrome step
bumper and remote fuel release.
All King Cab models (and the Single Cab Chassis) are built at the Nissan
Bangna Trad plant located about 20 kilometers east of Bangkok. (Navara Dual Cab
is sourced from Spain).
The new models are available from August at Nissan dealers across Australia.
The Nissan Navara D40 Dual Cab range has been highly successful in
Australia, especially in turbo diesel guise. It is the multiple winner of 4x4
Magazine’s Ute of theYear: The ST-X Dual Cab turbo diesel manual won it in 2006,
while the ST-X Dual Cab turbo diesel auto took out the title in 2007.
The D40 Navara is Nissan Australia’s biggest selling model with close to
9,000 sold so far this calendar year. “The new Navara King Cab is
destined to play an important role in tightening Nissan’s grip on the light
commercial vehicle market,” said Dan Thompson, CEO of Nissan Australia.
“The D40 Navara Dual Cab has been a very big seller for Nissan Australia
since its launch here, and is often in the top ten of all models in, according
to VFACTS.
“We see the King Cab models entering a growing market segment, where the need
to balance a large load with the ability to carry four in safety and comfort, if
only occasionally, will be greatly appreciated by our customers.
“The Navara King Cab will have a broad appeal, from working tradesmen to
people with active lifestyles who need to transport bulky gear in rougher
terrain.
Increasingly, customers want to be able to use their vehicle at the weekends,
as much as during the week. Our customers love how their Navara drives and they
don’t want to leave it behind when the work day is done,” said Thompson.
“We also believe that the availability of an automatic transmission across
the King Cab rage will appeal to many of our customers. This gives us a distinct
advantage against our competitors.
“Many Navara customers have something big to tow, and with a 4x4
class-topping 403Nm torque and a 3000kg towing capacity (equaling class-best)
across the range, that should be no problem.
“The Nissan Navara King Cab range offers a wide choice from the RX King Cab
to the sportiest ST-X Pick-Up. There’s a Navara King Cab to suit all needs and
tastes,“said Thompson.

The new Nissan Navara King Cab range adds a new dimension to the best-seller
Navara Dual Cab range to give buyers a big choice of rugged performance and
practicality.
Competitively equipped and priced, the new Navara King Cab range will be
extremely popular with working families looking for power and ability matched
with good looks and Nissan’s legendary commercial vehicle reputation.
The spacious cab allows four adults to be transported in comfort.
Importantly, all seats feature headrests and three-point seatbelts.
All King Cab models are fitted with Nissan’s proven 4WD system that can be
switched on the move between 2WD and full-time 4WD. A low range transfer case is
also featured which can be activated when stationary.
The Navara King Cab range offers a level of ride comfort usually delivered by
passenger wagons not rugged workhorses. That’s because it’s built from a strong,
high tensile steel fully-boxed ladder frame chassis with welded cross members.
This reduces vibration and provides reassuring solidity. The high tensile steel
frame is 90 percent stronger and 22 percent lighter than conventional steel with
improved structural rigidity for rock-solid performance on-road and
off-road.
The highly effective independent double wishbone coil, over shock front and
leaf spring rear, suspension system gives the King Cab impressive agility. It is
always able to respond quickly and accurately to driver inputs.
With a high 205 mm ground clearance and long 3200mm wheelbase, the Navara
King Cab is ready for the rough. Short front and rear overhangs mean a useful
angle of approach of 32-degrees while the departure angle is 27.5-degrees
(24-degrees for the King Cab ST-X Pick-Up).
For customers opting for the top-of-the-range ST-X Pick-Up, the load bed,
with its integrated tub liner, provides ample storage space for work tools or
recreational gear. The ST-X Pick-Up version’s load bed is 1855mm long and 1560mm
wide, with 1135mm clearance between the wheel arches. The tailgate opening width
is 1435mm. Built to carry a hefty load the RX King Cab Chassis can carry more
than 1100kg in manual guise and 1083kg as an auto, while the ST-X Cab Chassis
carries 1091kg in manual and 1065 in automatic guise.
When the ST-X Pick-Up is selected, the carrying capacity is 939kg in manual
transmission guise and 913kg in automatic.
King Cab customers can keep their fuel bills under control with the big
80-litre tank feeding fuel efficient diesel engines.
All three Navara King Cab models return 9.8-litres per 100km on the combined
cycle, in manual transmission guise, and 10.5l/100km as automatics (according to
government figures).
The King Cab range is available in eight colours, Platinum, Atlantic Blue,
Polar White, Aztec Gold, Burgundy, Reef Blue, Cosmic Black and Slate Grey.
Like all Nissan vehicles, the range is supported by a three-year/100,000km
warranty and three-year 24-hour roadside assistance. The Nissan Navara
Single Cab Chassis in Detail.
The Navara Single Cab Chassis comes exclusively in 4WD and is powered by a
proven common rail turbo-diesel 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a
six-speed manual transmission.
This produces a workman-like 106kW power at 4000rpm and a burly 356Nm torque
at a very low 2000rpm. The frugal diesel engine consumes only 9.3l/100km on the
combined cycle. The front brakes are ventilated discs, with drums at the rear.
The Single Cab rides on 16-inch alloy wheels, is shod with 205 R16 tyres and
carries a steel spare wheel.
The Single Cab Chassis is ready to work with a carrying capacity of 1200kg
and a substantial 3000kg towing capacity. With a Genuine Nissan aftermarket tray
in place the Single Cab model will have the largest load bed of all D40 Navara
models.
The Navara Single Cab Chassis is well equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, a
limited slip differential, selectable 4WD, air-conditioning, dual airbags, cloth
trim and a lockable glove box. It also features power steering, an AM/FM radio
with CD player, and a 12V power accessory socket.
The Single Cab Chassis is sharply positioned against its key rivals with a
burly 356Nm torque, standard alloy wheels, driver-selectable 4WD on the move,
standard air conditioning, front seat central armrest and a hefty 3000kg towing
capacity.
The spacious cab features a driver’s seat and two-passenger bench seat.
The Nissan Navara Single Cab Chassis comes in a range of four colours:
Platinum, Atlantic Blue, Polar White and Aztec Gold.
Like all Nissan vehicles the range is supported by a three-year/100,000km
warranty andthree-year 24-hour roadside assistance.
Taking on the market: The new Nissan Navara.
The new Nissan Navara King Cab and Single Cab 4WD models will expand Nissan’s
presence in a key part of the light commercial vehicle market by adding four new
models to a range that is already Nissan’s biggest selling in Australia by a
significant margin.
The new models enter the market at a busy time. Sales in the 4x4 LCV
Pick-up/Cab Chassis market are booming on the back of a robust economy.
Sales for the segment in 2007 were extremely strong, with VFACTS reporting
82,691 total sales for the 4x4 LCV segment of the popular Ute market, of which
Nissan Navara brand vehicles accounted for 18,245 or 22.1 percent of the
total.
The segment improved by 22 percent in 2007 over the previous year,
underlining the scope of the growth.
So far in 2008, with six months sales already completed, Nissan is fairing
well with the Navara Dual Cab models alone and the recently reintroduced D22
Navara workhorse models, with 8,932 sales (20.1 percent of the segment).
Growth in the 4x4 LCV segment in 2008 continues at 3.7 percent overall. The
Navara range accounted for 29 percent of all Nissan sales in Australia in the
first six months of 2008, underlining its importance in the product family.
Now with the arrival of these four new models to augment the Nissan footprint
in the segment, Navara sales should grow significantly to open the gap over its
many secondary rivals and put it in closer contention with the volume
leader.
With several key USPs and the backing of the 180+ Nissan Australia dealer
network, the new Navara Single and King Cab models will become a familiar site
on building sites, farms, water sports playgrounds and Moto-cross tracks around
the country.
A major feature that will give Navara King Cab the edge in this market is the
availability of an automatic transmission – an option which its rivals cannot
match - and the choice of a high-specification (ST-X) grade in Cab Chassis and
Pick-Up version.
The D40 Navara appeals to the premium end of the market while the
ever-popular D22 Navara fulfils the traditional, value-driven workhorse role for
independent contractors and fleet buyers alike.
