On the eve of the Australian debut of the new 207 Touring, the 207 hatch has
received first prize in the category of “Imported Car of the Year” which is
awarded each year in Japan by the Automotive Researchers’ & Journalists’
Conference of Japan (RJC). The 207 won this award by achieving a score of 474
points, a comfortable advantage of 200 points over the next placed vehicle. The
207 particularly impressed the jury with its very expressive exterior style and
its high level of active and passive safety confirmed by its 5 Star Euro NCAP
rating.
The Peugeot 207 hatch was launched in Australia in April 2007, and the 207GTi
3 door sports hatch and the hard top Coupe Cabriolet 207CC followed soon after
to expand the range. The 207 has been a success since its launch, capturing over
44% of its market segment year to date (Light > $25k).
The 207 has rapidly placed itself amongst the best sellers on a global basis,
notably in the European market. In Europe it is the fourth best selling car
overall, and it continues to be the best selling model in the ‘European B’ or
small car segment.
In its first full year on sale internationally, the 207 will achieve the
objective of 500,000 worldwide sales announced at its launch. The 207’s
popularity is set to increase locally with the addition of the stylish and
versatile 207 Touring, which is now on sale.
