The Royal Automobile Club of Victorias (RACV) annual cost
of ownership survey has again found that the Honda CR-V is the cheapest compact
SUV to own and run.
The RACVs 2007 Vehicle Operating Costs survey found the CR-V
costs an owner $203.86 a week, beating the X-Trail ($207.36), Forester ($208.52)
and RAV-4 ($212.69).
Honda Australia Senior Director Lindsay Smalley said Honda had
worked very hard to provide value for money on all vehicles across its range.
The CR-V boasts exceptional value for money and its great to
see it to come out on top in this survey for the second year running.
Its the ideal choice for families who need a high-quality
vehicle without sacrificing the family budget as well as young, outgoing singles
who want a practical, yet stylish car.
The Civic Hybrid was also named as the cheapest hybrid to own
and run for the second consecutive year, beating the Toyota Prius. The survey
also found that the Civic Hybrid had lower running costs than small European
diesels such as the Golf.
The Civic Hybrid is the best choice for motorists concerned
about their impact on the environment, said Lindsay Smalley.
In addition to being the most economical choice, the survey
found that the Civic Hybrid can save up to 17.9 kilograms of greenhouse gas
emissions per week compared to a conventional petrol-engined Civic.
Thats a potential environmental saving of 930 kilograms of
greenhouse gas per year.
The 2007 Honda CR-V retails from $31,990 and the Honda Civic
Hybrid retails from $32,990. For more information on Hondas car range, visit
