The Audi TT has just been voted Germany’s most popular car.
For the eighth time, more than 100 regional weekly newspapers invited their
readers to vote for “Our car”. The 56 car models launched during the past year
were eligible to take part. Over 100,000 responses were received, and the Audi
TT topped the poll.
Just 10 days ago, the Audi TT was named ‘2007 World Car Design of the Year’
in New York and to celebrate this award, a glittering event will be held in
Sydney tonight at the Museum of Contemporary Art MCA.
Numerous other awards have been bestowed on the Audi TT including Drive Car
of the Year 2006 (SMH, Age and drive.com.au) and the “Yellow Angel” award from
readers of the ADAC publication Motorwelt.
The TT is available as a coupé and a roadster, the latter expected to arrive
in Australia next month. Besides an unmistakable design, the decisive factor in
the TT’s huge success is its proverbial “Vorsprung durch Technik”, exemplified
by the lightweight body construction in intelligent composite design, the
two-litre engine with petrol direct injection and turbocharging, the S tronic
Direct Shift Gearbox and quattro permanent four-wheel drive.
