Melbourne – Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles have posted the best ever May sales
performance with 1,319 vehicles delivered for the month, an increase of 13 per
cent over last May. The May result has contributed to record year-to-date sales
figures of 5,948, a 15 per cent increase over the same period last year.
The record month came after strong increases in many classes, with the
A-Class and B-Class continuing to gain momentum, showing strong customer demand
for products in the luxury small car segment. A-Class sales jumped 46 per cent
over the same month last year to 136 units in May.
The B-Class, which was released in Australia last October, has been a strong
contributor to sales, adding 87 units in May and a total of 646 units in just
eight months. The diesel B 180 CDI will start arriving in dealerships this month
to help with the growing demand for the B-Class.
“It is pleasing to see that after a record first quarter earlier this year;
customers are continuing to react favourably towards Mercedes models. With the
recent growth in our range, we expect this to continue,” said Horst von Sanden,
managing director responsible for Mercedes Car Group in Australia.
The recently released six-seater R-Class exceeded sales expectations in May,
the models first full month on sale, with 43 units. The release of the R 320 CDI
this month will add to the appeal of this new model class for Mercedes.
The luxury four-wheel drive ML-Class posted 247 units for the month, an
increase of 46 per cent over last May and a 143 per cent increase over 2005
year-to-date sales, capitalising on the popularity of this segment, in
particular with diesel buyers.
The new flagship S-Class recorded its highest monthly sales result since the
new model was launched in February, with 68 customers taking delivery.
