Hyundai again finished sixth in the Australian car market in October
despite Mitsubishi’s big launch month, overtaking Nissan—which fell from fourth
to eighth place—with October sales of 3508 or 4.6 per cent market
share.
Year-to-date, Hyundai increased its lead over Honda to 1126 from September’s
930 to retain seventh ranking outright with cumulative sales of 40,549, up 5124
vehicles or 14.5 per cent over this time in 2004. This represents 4.9 per cent
of the total market compared to 2004’s 4.5 per cent.
Sales figures for October were released today by auto industry statistician
VFACTS.
Getz tops Light Cars again
Getz was again the buyers’ most popular choice in the Light Car class with
968 sales, the new-look 1.6 litre with standard ABS, EBD, active head restraints
and rear discs starting to make an impression following its mid-month launch and
despite the launch a week earlier of Holden’s Daewoo-sourced Barina.
Tucson came within four units of its best ever month with 380 sales, boosted
by the arrival of the more fuel-frugal 2.0 litre-engined 2WD Tucson City variant
into Hyundai dealer showrooms late in the month.
In overall SUV sales, Hyundai overtook Mitsubishi to claim fifth place in
October and maintained its seventh place year-to-date compared to tenth place
this time last year.
In overall passenger car sales, Hyundai took sixth spot for the month while
year-to-date it remained in fifth place ahead of Honda and Mitsubishi.
Strong global demand for the new Sonata continued to hamper availability
locally although some supplies are arriving.
