A record-breaking month for Corolla has seen Toyota increase its lead in the
Queensland motor vehicle market by a further 613 vehicles.
Toyota registered 3,821 vehicles in Queensland in May, with 809 Corollas
accounting for 21.2 per cent of that total.
Nationally, Corolla had its strongest May result in 20 years with 3,804
sales, eclipsing the previous record of 3,175 Corollas sold in May 1985.
The May 2005 Queensland result for Corolla represents a 25 per cent volume
increase on the April 2005 result (647 vehicles) and a 38 per cent volume
increase on May 2004 Corolla sales (586 vehicles).
Corolla was a clear winner in the Queensland Small Passenger segment in May
2005, with 22.1 per cent market share.
According to industry statistician VFACTS, Toyota captured 21 per cent of the
overall Queensland market of 18,221 motor vehicles in May.
Toyota now leads the Queensland motor vehicle markets (year-to-date May) by
2,966 vehicles – from nearest rival Holden.
Toyota’s regional manager – northern region, Chris Beuth, said the company’s
other strong performers in April were Big Six Avalon and the overall 4x4 range.
“Avalon had an extraordinary month in Queensland, with 245 registrations for
a 161 per cent volume increase over April 2005,” he said.
“Those 245 registrations represented 60 per cent of the national total for
May.
LandCruiser Prado led the Toyota assault on the Sports Utility Vehicle
market, with 357 vehicles sold – 28.8 per cent of the SUV Medium segment.
King Off The Road LandCruiser 100 Series, with 290 vehicles sold, captured 56
per cent of the SUV Large market.
New-generation HiLux 4x4 was Queensland’s top-selling 4x4 Pick-up Cab/Chassis
in May and the state’s equal highest selling Light Truck, with 369 sales.
It was strongly supported in the 4x4 PU/CC segment by workhorse LandCruiser
PU/CC, which improved its sales performance by 15.4 per cent from April 2005 to
May 2005 with 225 sales in May.
Toyota Camry four contributed to the company’s traditional dominance of the
Medium Passenger segment in May with 369 vehicles registered and 43.8 per cent
market share.
Toyota vehicles also won the Light Bus segment, with new-generation HiAce
Commuter bus achieving 79.5 per cent market penetration.
